Our most popular quad tour – a 1-hour guided ride on quad bikes (ATVs) with big scenery and real off-road terrain on the hills above Queenstown, with panoramic views down into the Shotover River canyon and across to Lake Wakatipu.

Your adventure begins in our training area to get you comfortable on the quad, before heading out onto our private off-road tracks for hill climbs and forest trails. Tracks and terrain are selected on the day based on conditions and rider ability – no generic routes, every ride is set up for you.

Kids Quad Bike Experience

A fun and confidence-building quad adventure for kids – designed specifically for young riders aged 6–14, with purpose-built tracks and easy-to-ride quad bikes.

Kids ride safe 50cc or 90cc quad bikes on our dedicated training property, while a parent or guardian joins the experience on a larger quad. With structured training, guided riding, and small groups, this is a hands-on family adventure where skills, confidence, and smiles grow fast.

Beyond The Skyline 4×4 Quad Tour

Built for experienced riders – a 2-hour adventure for intermediate to expert riders aged 18+, using powerful 4×4 quads on more demanding terrain across our stunning 650-acre private adventure park high above Queenstown.

After check-in and kitting up, your ride begins with a warm-up and assessment in our training area before heading out onto tougher off-road tracks. Expect rugged hill climbs, rocky sections, and flowing bush trails, with your guide selecting terrain based on ability as you ride higher into the hills above Queenstown, rewarded with epic views over the town, the Shotover River, and Coronet Peak.

  • Kids Quad Bike Experience: purpose-built for ages 6–14, with a parent or guardian riding along – a fun, confidence-building family adventure.
  • Beyond the Skyline 4×4 (2 hrs): for experienced riders 18+ only – more technical terrain, bigger ride time, and a tougher challenge.

No. Quad bikes are off-road and you do not need a driver licence. You will receive a briefing, safety gear, and training before the ride, and you are guided throughout.

To join this tour, riders must:

  • Have a conversational level of English
  • Be physically fit and healthy
  • Follow all instructions given by Off Road Adventures staff

You do not need a licence to join this tour.

Yes – you need enough English to understand the safety briefing and follow your guide’s instructions while riding. If you’re unsure, choose our ride-along buggies instead – they deliver the same off-road thrills without the need to drive, and are a great option for international visitors.

Yes. For families, our Kids Quad Bike Experience is designed specifically for ages 6–14, with a parent or guardian riding along. For adults and confident older riders, choose Above the Skyline.

We provide everything needed:

  • Return transport from the Queenstown shop to the riding site
  • Experienced local guide
  • Training session before the ride
  • Helmets, eye protection and gloves
  • Wet weather gear (rain jacket, rain pants, gumboots) if needed
  • Complimentary photos
  • Dress for the conditions in clothes you don’t mind getting a bit dusty
  • Bring any drinks and snacks you need for the duration of the tour
  • A camera or a GoPro if you’d like to capture your own photos and video

Yes – we operate our quad tours all year round – rain, shine, or snow, whatever the weather.

Quad riding is brilliant in all conditions – fun in the sun and the wetter the better. Full wet weather gear is available at no extra cost.

If conditions are unsafe, we may delay, amend, or cancel the tour. We’ll always keep you updated.

Safety is our priority. Every tour starts with a briefing, safety gear, and training, and you ride with an expert guide throughout.

All guides are First Aid certified to the highest level required for off-road activities and carry first aid kits, phones and radios at all times during tours.

Pregnancy, back problems, recent injuries, medical conditions and/or allergies may affect your ability to join the tour.

If you’re unsure, please contact us before booking so we can advise. You’ll also be asked to discuss any of these at check-in.

This tour is designed for riders who are already confident controlling a quad on uneven, technical terrain. Your guide will assess your ability in the training area before heading out onto the more challenging tracks.

Parking on Shotover Street is limited to 30 minutes and there is no parking directly in front of the shop.

We recommend the Man Street multi-story carpark (about a 2-minute walk).

Quad tours operate with a minimum of 2 riders to run. If you’re travelling solo, you’re welcome to contact us – we may be able to fit you into an existing departure, depending on availability. We can also run 1-on-1 private tours for an additional cost.

No – for safety, quad bikes are single rider only (one person per quad). Each rider needs their own quad booking.

If someone in your group prefers not to drive, our self-drive buggies are a great alternative – you can ride as a passenger while another person from your group drives.

Yes. We are set up for groups and have extensive experience accommodating all sizes. For groups of 10+ riders, please get in touch so we can help lock in the best timeslot and discuss private tour options.

  • Standard bookings: 48 hours – applies for bookings up to 10 guests
  • Larger groups: 7 days – applies for bookings of 10+ guests

No refunds will be issued for cancellations or reductions in guest numbers within these periods. Rescheduling is also not possible within this timeframe.

Yes. If conditions change (including weather, terrain, or operational requirements), we may adjust the route, timing, or experience – or cancel if it is not safe to run. Safety always comes first, and our guides will make the call on the day.
